With more than 23 ski regions and over 550 ski runs, your guides have ample terrain to choose from to provide your group with appropriately challenging runs in the best snow in the Chugach. In any given week you are likely to sample from the hundreds of runs pioneered by VHSG. |
Alaska’s eastern Chugach Mountains are the epi-center of big mountain skiing. The terrain, pioneered by VHSG over the last fifteen years, remains the proving ground for the world’s elite skiers. Everything from scenic glacier runs and powder bowls to steep couloirs, exposed ramps and big mountain faces. The cold maritime snow is legendary, enabling us to ski some of the steepest ski terrain in North America with confidence and security not possible anywhere else in the world |

VHSG begins planning appropriate groupings for you during your initial phone interview based on your prior ski experiences. During your week at VHSG your guide will develop an appropriate progression for you and your group.
VHSG caters to advanced and expert skiers so do not hesitate to come by yourself or with a small group of friends. You are bound to develop a network of like-minded skiers with which you may choose to group up with in the future.

We also specialize in private heliskiing. With over 2,500 square miles to ski, we explore the Chugach. We typically travel deep into the Chugach Mountains, to access rarely visited and the most exotic ski runs. Ski guides from other heliski operations bring their clients to VHSG for a private week. We offer the most exciting terrain, the best weather, and the most experienced guides for private ships. Our private ship packages include one A-Star helicopter and two guides. |

| VHSG caters to advanced and expert skiers and riders. You dont need to be an extreme skier, but you need to be capable of skiing black diamond terrain in a variety of snow conditions. New to big mountain skiing? The Terrain Progression Program is designed to teach you the requisite skills. Chugach veteran? Guides will assist in pushing your limits safely down the most memorable runs of your lifetime. All guests leave VHSG having developed better big mountain skills! |

| Typically we are able to fly 80% of our season. On days when weather prohibits safe flying, we offer ski touring, ice climbing, sea kayaking, snow machining as well as halibut and salmon fishing. |
VHSG was the first heliski guide service in Alaska. The founder of VHSG, Doug Coombs, guided and explored more of these mountains than any other operator in the state. Our experienced guides are fulltime professionals who specialize in ski mountaineer guiding, avalanche forecasting and avalanche education. We have the most experienced guide staff in the United States as well as the best terrain. We fly an average of 80% of the ski season. |
